Over the summer I was involved with a local community radio station called KTown FM, which as well as being very fun, provided me with lots of new experiences and opportunities. One of Fife’s biggest events this summer was the Big Tent Festival in Falkland and as a member of the ‘KTown News Team’ I got the chance to interview lots of interesting people and gain lots of new skills. The Big Tent Festival was – as always – a great cultural gathering of people from all walks of life. It also had a great selection of bands, which gave me great interview opportunities.
Among many others, some of my favourite (and probably most recognisable) interviewees were folk singer King Creosote, radio journalist Lesley Riddoch, Adelaide Sosseh, and a personal favourite – children’s entertainer Mr Boom.

Over the summer I also got to interview lots of interesting people from all over Fife, such as Flog It! Expert James Lewis who has also recently featured on Antiques Roadtrip.
I hope to use this blog to upload podcasts and interviews that I conduct over the rest of this year.

The performance was put on by the incredible Dundee Rep cast and David Birrell featured as the blood thirsty Mr Todd. The whole performance was incredible and the quality of singing and acting was amazing. My heart was pounding throughout the whole show. Fantastic!

I filmed this after the fashion show at the Rothes Halls. Thes costumes were layed out in the Viewfield Building which is just across the road from the Stenton branch of the Adam Smith College where I am based.

I went across to the Viewfield building to have a look at some of the costumes from the Adam Smith College Fashion Show which recently took place. I hadn’t been across to the building before (in actual fact I didn’t even know that it existed) and I was surprised to see so many student busy making clothes and dresses. How could something that productive be hidden away from everyone?!

I filmed some of the amazing dresses and that video will shortly be available to see.

This weekend I was asked to be a moderator on the Young People section of the forum which provides a secure social site for home-educated youngsters. It is part of the Home Ed Biz Forums which let Home Educating families keep in touch with each other and to help ’home-edupreneurs’  advertise their businesses:

The Home Education Business Directory is perhaps best described as ‘a preferential trading community for home educators, home educated young people and supporters of home education’. Since that explanation is something of a mouthful, we coined a new term, ‘home-edupreneur’ to describe the home educating entrepreneurs whose diverse range of businesses are highlighted in the directory and will be regularly featured on the website.

As an ex – home educated child I am regularly on the forums and am honoured to be a moderator.

After many rehearsals, we have finally reached performance time. I have the honour of singing along with world famous trumpeter John Wallace who is also the Principal of The RSAMD. I will be singing as a soprano in Fife Opera and Young People’s choir Bel Canto Voices who will also make an appearance in the concert.  We will be singing well known opera choruses and there will also be solos and duets from the most experienced in the chorus.

Saturday 8th’s concert is in Leven Parish Church at 7:30pm and Sunday 9th’s performance is in the Old Kirk in Kirkcaldy at 7:30pm.

Last November Fife Opera performed The Land Of Smiles at the Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy.

The brief was to make a programme of 10 minutes in length about our Scottish identity. I have learned a lot since then about editing and interviewing but I really enjoyed making this.
