Recently, one of my fellow students at college has started lending me films to watch in an effort to expand my knowledge of films. Here are some of the films I have seen recently:
The Majestic
I watched this film the other day as enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. There are strong characters and the story left the audience in suspense. It left me doubting myself and despite the sad story there was a happy ending.
Up
I didn’t get the chance to watch this when it came out, but I recently watched it and loved it. It’s a classic and despite the fact that it appeared to be a children’s film it was very much an adults film too.
The Time-Travellers Wife
This started off as a best-selling American novel, but was soon made into a film. I had quite enjoyed the book and I felt that underlying storylines, characters whole sections of the story were left out or completely compressed to fit the story into a feature length movie.
My Sister’s Keeper
This was adapted from author Jodi Picoult’s best-selling novel. I hadn’t read to book but was keen to watch the film. It tells the tale of Anna Fitzgerald, a 13-year-old girl who enlists the help of an attorney, Campbell Alexander, to sue her parents for the rights to her body. Kate, Anna’s older sister, suffers from acute promyelocytic leukemia, a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. Anna was conceived through in vitro fertilization to be a donor who could save Kate’s life. When she reaches 13 she tells her parents that she no longer wants to be a donor – but unbeknown to her parents she is doing a huge favor for her big sister. A real tear jerker.
Invictus
I found this a very insightful film about Nelson Mandela’s rule and the South African rugby team. Very gripping and I liked the different storylines running throughout.
